Craig Widdison

Craig Widdison has only been training in his own right for a short period but he has a wealth of knowledge and experience behind him. Craig has worked with many high profile trainers including:

Robert Smerdon (Caulfield) -  6 years, 2 of those years as Foreman.

Tony Vasil (Caulfield) -  1 year as Foreman.

Kevin Prendergast (Ireland) - 6 months over the summer.

Peter Morgan - ( Talwood Park, Whittlesea) - 9 years all up, 5 years as Assistant Trainer, 4 years as Co -Tainer.

Racing has always been in the Widdison family with his father being a former jockey and trainer himself. Craig went off to university after finishing his secondary education to study PE teaching but the racing bug never left him and he quickly returned to the game he loved.

Craig and Peter Morgan trained in partnership where they tasted a lot of success. They trained many winners in their four years together with the highlights being:

Oasis Bloom - Winner of $326,900 including the Group 2 Stocks Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Star Rolling - Winner of $397,270 including the Group 2 Peter Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield.

Zebulon - Winner of $172,410 including the Listed City of Adelaide handicap.

Eloping - a multiple black type winner of 7 races and $1.2 million in prizemoney.

Craig felt the timing was right to return to Wodonga where his family is based and train in his own right.

Craig has used his time with experienced and successful horse trainers well. He has learnt a lot in his time but is young and has fresh ideas of his own that he has combined with tried and true methods to form his own style. Being based in Wodonga now Craig is relishing the relaxed country environment and so are his horses. But don’t let his relaxed nature fool you, Craig has great attention to detail and is meticulous in regards to his horses. He rides his own track work which gives him great insight into each horse and how they are progressing throughout their preparation.

Craig loves working with his horses, he enjoys taking a horse along from the yearling stage and seeing how far each horse can progress. The facilities Craig has at his disposal are first class. These facilities including both sand and grass tracks and barriers for jumpout's and education, 8 stables, 9 Undercover yards, several outside yards with shelters, 8 horse undercover walker, sandroll and 50m straight swimming pool.
